Our Story

Earth Allies Restoration Network (EARN) was founded by long-term partners, The Valley Foundation and Mainsprings. In 2012, The Valley Foundation, in partnership with Mark Shepard, helped Mainsprings transform their conventional gardens into a Permaculture farm. Over the years, we witnessed the farm thriving, providing an abundance of food, helping with the sustainability of the organization, and helping to improve the soil quality and overall environment of the Mainsprings campuses.
This journey inspired conversations about the limitations organizations face in implementing such change without the knowledge and funding to do so, as well as the shared belief that nonprofits should be working together to lift each other up instead of competing for resources. As a result, the partners launched a successful pilot program in early 2020 to support other organizations to implement Permaculture practices in their own communities. Today, EARN is a growing global network of organizations with the shared goal of creating a movement across the planet to transform our landscapes and better provide for our communities in partnership with nature.
Vision
We envision an abundant food paradise across the planet that provides sustainable food sources and improves livelihoods, while restoring the environment and natural ecosystems throughout the world.
Mission
We seek to spread restoration agricultural methods throughout the world by equipping grassroots organizations and individual farmers alike with the knowledge, funding, and organizational capacity to practice and share restoration agricultural methods in their own communities. By working with partners to transition communities from conventional farming methods to regenerative practices, we strive to transform farmlands into a more natural state, ensuring an abundance of diverse food sources while simultaneously restoring the natural ecosystem.
Core Values
- Humanity has an obligation to earn its place on this Earth for future generations.
- Agricultural and environmental change in the region is vital to improving livelihoods.
- Collaboration and equitable partnership among farmers, organizations, and funders is key to creating long-term sustainable change.
